my own creation, or rather recreation, of the iPod mini. I saved battery time, conserved weight and increased my storage by replacing the original 4GB mini hard drive with a 32GB solid state compact flash card.
Incased in a polished aluminum shell. Painted end caps flat black, to match the custom fitted iPod Video 4th gen click wheel.
how did you get the black clickwheel to work?
ReplyDeleteis it the same dimensions? did you have to work some magic with the ribbon cable? i know this is like 2 years old here's hoping you read it. I saw this on flikr too, your art is awesome.
really cool! waiting for my pink (ewww!) ipod to arrive, gonna do just this but will leave the top, bottom cover and click wheel as it is.
ReplyDeleteYou may not see this but I just recently attempted this and succeeded, just use an iPod 5th generation click wheel separate the click wheel from the ribbon cable sensor, do the same for the iPod mini one as well unscrew four screws and carefully stick a guitar pick between the plastic front cover and the motherboard of the iPod mini click wheel and it will come loose and don't forget to unplug the ribbon cable that is connected to that itself. Next you will Dremel the iPod 5th generation click wheel to be almost as flat as the one that came off of the Mini, after you do both the click wheel and the button if the double-sided tape that's attached to the board is still good I would recommend use that or get very thin cell phone adhesive. That is how you do it
ReplyDeleteCould you please tell me how you polished the housing. I love the look 🙂
